IF YOU LIVE in Dublin, chances are you’ll have been roared at by a bunch of tourists in Viking helmets at least once.
The Viking Splash is a beloved feature of the city – but it does cause a bit of mischief from time to time. Case in point: This blooper from Oireachtas News.
Reporter Flor Mac Carthy was filming a segment about the Budget outside the Department of Finance on Tuesday when the big yellow bus lumbered past just out of shot.
Of course, they decided to let rip a big “YARRGH!” in the middle of a take:
The curtsy! What a pro.
Mac Carthy set the scene for us, and revealed that the tour guide also gave her a gentle slagging over the mic:
So, serious topic, Budget 2018, outside the Department of Finance, clock ticking. We’d already had several takes as the sun was really bright and glaring, the lunch crowd was coming out of the building, and I’d fluffed my lines…
Then [the Viking Splash tour guide] started: “On your right folks, filming for TV is a famous Irish actress. It’s Victoria Smurfit. Howaya Victoria!” That’s when I lost it.
“I’ve been on the Viking Splash a few times… I’m not sure all the tourists understand all the banter, but it’s in good humour,” she said. ”I’ll just be on the lookout for them the next time we’re filming!”
The Viking Splash strikes again. Is no one safe?!
Thank you to Flor, Nick McKenna and Oireachtas News for the clip!
